Microbiological Limits for Cosmetics and Toiletries

Cosmetics and toiletries for use by the general public are not required to be manufactured from sterile raw materials or under aseptic conditions. Therefore, microorganisms found in the general environment, in raw materials, and in components may be introduced into the product during manufacture. It is important that raw materials and components be handled and stored under conditions designed to deter microbial contamination and proliferation.
